Ministry of Justice discuss Criminal Legal Aid Review
On the 28 February 2020, The Ministry now of Justice (MoJ) announced a consultation into four “accelerated areas” of the Criminal Legal Aid Review, which were fast tracked in response to concerns raised by the profession.
The proposed policies are for:
- Payment for work on unused material;
- Payment for paper heavy cases;
- Payment for cracked trials; and
- Payment for sending cases to the Crown Court.
The MoJ would like to hold discussions with solicitors and solicitor advocates about these proposals during the consultation period. In the current environment, there will be concerns regarding the spread of Covid-19. Given this and the current government guidance, the MoJ are proposing to hold these meetings using conference calls on the following dates:
Criminal Legal Aid Review Accelerated Areas: virtual roundtable #1 (solicitors) | Thursday 19 March, 5:30-7pm |
Criminal Legal Aid Review Accelerated Areas: virtual roundtable #2 (solicitors) | Wednesday 25 March, 5:30-7pm |
To register for either of these events, please email criminallegalaidreview@justice.gov.uk
