  • 05/06/2025

The Department for Business and Trade are recruiting a Non-Executive Director of the Competition Service. Applications are open until the extended deadline of Tuesday 10 June 2025 at midday.

The Competition Service is an executive non-departmental public body of The Department for Business and Trade, established as a financial intermediary and administrative support body for the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT).  The CAT is a specialist independent judicial body whose statutory functions are to hear appeals and decide cases involving competition or regulatory issues in respect of decisions made by the Competition and Markets Authority, the sector regulators and the Secretary of State for DBT; and to hear private claims for damages concerning infringements of UK and EU competition law.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to play a key part in the preservation of an effective UK competition regime. The appointed member will chair the Competition Service’s Audit Committee and Board and ensure the Board and organisation are operating in line with best practice in governance.

Role details:

  • Position: Competition Service, Non-Executive Director
  • Remuneration and Time Commitment: £400 per day for approximately 12 days per annum (£104,000 full-time equivalent) for a term of four years
  • Key Focus Areas: Finance, Accountancy, Regulation, Audit

The DBT are keen to attract candidates with experience at senior management level – ideally with a financial or accountancy background – and strong leadership and communication skills. They should have the ability to work inclusively with diverse teams; strong communication and influencing skills; excellent analytical and decision-making abilities; and the strategic vision to contribute to and revise strategic plans effectively.

Applications can be submitted here.

The deadline to apply is Tuesday 10 June 2025 at 12pm.
