10:20   Managing Complex Litigation with Litigants In-Person
Chloe Themistocleous, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland

This session will consider the complexities of litigating Employment Tribunal cases with litigants in person (LiP), in light of the introduction of the tribunal portal, the rise of LIPs with serious health conditions, the increased use of AI and in an ever changing legal landscape. We will consider strategies for best managing such cases, to help you secure the best outcomes for your clients and to aid smoother running of the tribunal process.

About Chloe
Chloe is a Partner specialising in complex Employment Tribunal Litigation. Chloe originally trained as a barrister and was called to the bar in 2012. Having graduated in 1st place in her cohort at bar school and having received the Harmsworth Major Scholarship from her Inn of Court, she cross qualified to become a solicitor in 2016. In light of this, Chloe has a strong litigation practice and regularly represents businesses and conducts advocacy in the Employment Tribunal.

In July 2025, Chloe was appointed one of the countries youngest Employment Tribunal Judges sitting in Leeds.

Chloe has a wealth of experience acting for Respondents in Tribunal litigation, including claims for unfair dismissal, all types of discrimination and whistleblowing. Chloe also has extensive experience conducting judicial mediations, regularly achieving positive results for her clients, without the need for a final hearing.  A large part of her practice has been spent managing class actions for either misclassification or the failure to collectively consult, having managed eight class actions in total in her 14 year career.

Chloe’s clients say she is “impressive to watch in the Tribunal”, “achieves great results” and is a “calming influence”.

In addition to her Tribunal work, Chloe provides a broad range of employment advice to clients.  Recent experience includes:

  • advising on complex disciplinary, appeal and grievances processes;
  • advising on large scale redundancy situations and change projects;
  • advising on complex flexible working requests involving disability issues and sex discrimination issues;
  • negotiating senior executive terminations; and
  • delivering training to clients on fair dismissals, discrimination in practice (with a focus on sexual harassment and disability discrimination), and mock Tribunals.

Chloe has also spent over a year on secondment as in house counsel at a global tech company and therefore truly understands client needs.

Chloe is one of two of the product groups Technology Partners leading on advice and implementation on AI solutions in both the group and for clients. Chloe regularly writes articles, speaks at conferences and contributes to the Tech Talks Podcast regarding the evolution of work through AI. In addition, Chloe regularly writes articles and for the last two years has contributed to Lexology Labour & Employment Disputes 2025 Guide.
