Important Consultation: MoJ Proposal on Interest on Lawyers’ Client Accounts (ILCA)
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched a consultation on a proposed “Interest on Lawyers’ Client Accounts (‘ILCA’) scheme”, which would require solicitors to hand over 75% of the interest earned on client accounts to the MoJ. Unlike similar schemes in other jurisdictions, these funds would not be earmarked for access to justice projects but would go into general MoJ funding.
You can read the full consultation here.
The deadline for responses is 9 February 2026.
